EHDEN Academy Marks One-Year Anniversary with 1,000th Enrollee
One year ago, April 2020, the EHDEN Academy was launched as an offshoot of the European Health Data & Evidence Network (EHDEN) project to support upskilling for those working with real-world data to generate real-world evidence of healthcare interventions. Initially, it has been supporting EHDEN’s programme of training and certifying small-to-medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in working with real-world data and the OMOP common data model in a consistent curriculum.
We are delighted that coincident to this anniversary we have also had 1,000 enrollees to the Academy and its courses. The Academy is a free, international resource, with on-demand training developed by the OHDSI (Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics) and EHDEN community, expanding to currently include nine courses and a faculty of ten expert instructors. Whilst mostly Europe-based, Academy course followers come from forty-six countries around the globe.
The Academy has an ambitious roadmap to generate more educational content, around the technical aspects of working with real-world data, and the tools, methods and skills to generate real-world evidence. Meanwhile, content from within EHDEN itself, on the technology architecture and methods being created in the project are earmarked for development. We are also especially pleased about a forthcoming course for citizens and patient organisations around these topics.
“Whilst 1,000 enrollees in its first year is indeed a significant achievement, moreover, it underscores the demand for high quality and free training on how to use the latest tools and tackle the complexities of observational research,” said Nigel Hughes , EHDEN Project Lead. “It’s also a great example of the collaborative spirit that is at the heart of the Academy’s mission to provide quality education for the open science community at scale. We look forward to the continued evolution of the Academy’s curriculum, number of instructors and enrollees, and its contribution to expanding the knowledge of those working with real-world data.”
