WHO Drug Dictionary and Athena

Hello,

Have there been any discussions on bringing in the 11-digit codes from the WHO Drug Dictionary (hosted by Uppsala) into Athena, under a license paywall?

Hi @Ajit_Londhe - there have been, but WHO UMC would not provide content to OHDSI for free but we also would have to subscribe and pay a license fee which there was no budget for to be found. Want to sponsor it?

Can you describe the sponsorship path? Would that still mean you need to bring your own WHOUMC license?

OHDSI would have to acquire a license and the vocabulary would also be license restricted and everyone using it would have to present proof that they are actively subscribing.

Two issues:

  1. Somebody needs to have a license to WHO Drug so it can be run through the RxNorm Extension process (the “Boiler”). That is what @mik calls “sponsoring”.
  2. We need a redistribution license so folks can download it from Athena.
