Truven Commercial Claims and Medicare

Hello,

For the CDM data conversion of Truven datasets (CCAE & MDCR), should we combine both these datasets into single CDM instance since the transformation rules are almost identical for all the CDM tables?

We do see that there is overlapping person (enrollee) data between CCAE & MDCR datasets. Is it possible to flag of these data in Observation, Condition_Occurrence and other tables in CDM for CCAE and MDCR datasets?

I’ve referred the CDM 4 transformation document available on OMOP portal, the flag (transformation rule) is mentioned only for PAYER_PLAN_PERIOD table that allows identification between CCAE and MDCR databases mapping to CDM.

Thank you!

Nobody seems to have spotted your question, so let me try an answer:

Generally, people do not pool databases, unless they can do so safely. But then the data would have been pooled to begin with. Truven used to pool CCAE and MDCR data that have labs attached and called it MSLR. So, it can be done. But at the end of the day it is a question of whether you want to preserve the distinction in the population (those who are active commercial health insurance = usually healthy and young, and those who have Medicare supplemental insurance = older, but better off and healthier than the true Medicare patients), or whether you want to use them as a large pool of patients irrespective where they came from.
