Request for Guidance on Adding Missing ICD‑O‑3 Site/Histology/

Good morning OHDSI,

Our institution is currently working on mapping the Tumor Registry data into the OMOP Common Data Model using the Oncology Extension. During this process, we identified that several ICD‑O‑3 site/histology/behavior code combinations present in our source data do not appear to exist in the current OMOP vocabulary.

To illustrate the issue, here are a few examples of combinations we could not locate:

  • Site: C57.4 (Uterine adnexa)

  • Histology: 9473/3 (Primitive neuroectodermal tumor)

  • Note:We were able to find this specific site/histology pairing represented as a valid combination in the 6/11/2021 Errata of ICD-O-3 SEER Site/Histology Validation List

  • Site: C42.1 (Bone marrow)

  • Histology: 9879/3 (Acute myeloid leukemia with mutated RUNX1)

  • Site: C73.9 (Thyroid gland)

  • Histology: 8507/3 (Invasive micropapillary carcinoma)

Before proceeding further, we wanted to check with you on the appropriate process for requesting additions or updates to the vocabulary. Could you please advise on:

  1. How to formally submit missing ICD‑O‑3 combinations for review and potential inclusion in the vocabulary; and

  2. Whether there is a preferred template or submission channel for proposing vocabulary changes related to ICD‑O‑3?

We would be happy to provide the full list of missing combinations and any supporting documentation needed.

Bring them to the Oncology WG please. We are collecting all these instances and other missing concepts and plan to will work with the vocab WG to add them in.
