Wanted to get your input on this issue. I’m working on a concept set definition of the disease Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML). The SNOMED concept of PML has concept id 433957. When digging into the associated source codes of this standard concept, there are mappings to ICD10/ICD10CM source code I67.3 for the condition of Progressive vascular leukoencephalopathy (PVL).
Our clinicians tell us that PVL, which is more widely referred to as either Binswanger’s disease or subcortical leukoencephalopathy, should not be a descendant of PML, as PML is a disease predicated on having JC Virus, while PVL/Binswanger’s is a form of dementia brought on by hypertension or old age.
Can you take a look? Would it be possible to remove the mapping of PVL source codes to the PML standard concept?
Hi @Christian_Reich, do you think that PVL could be de-coupled from the PML concept? If so, do you think it’s something that would be available by year end, or would it be on track for sometime next year?
We just downloaded the Vocab from Athena today, looks like PVL is still mapping to PML. Do you think this can be addressed in the next version of the Vocab?
