The past few years the Population Level Estimation Workgroup has mostly been operating underground. Now, we want to open up the workgroup and start having regular meetings. Some of the topics we’d like to discuss are:
Overview of the current methods library: what is missing? (method development)
Evaluation of methods
Best practices for estimation studies (a continuation of this discussion )
How to present and interpret results from estimation studies (what is the use of p-values? Should be produce posterior distributions instead? Empirical calibration? Etc.)
Training on methods
Whatever comes up for discussion
We would like to give people from across the globe the opportunity to join these calls. Hence we’re splitting them up. One week will be the ‘Western hemisphere’: Europe & the Americas, the other week will be the ‘Eastern hemisphere’: Asia Pacific.
The first Population Level Estimation Workgroup meeting this year will take place on Wednesday March 30, and this will be a Western Hemisphere meeting:
6pm Central European time
5pm UK time
Noon Eastern Time (New York)
9am Pacific Coast Time (LA)
The second meeting will take place on April 6, and will be an Eastern hemisphere meeting:
3pm Hong Kong / Taiwan
4pm South Korea
5:30pm Adelaide
(8am Central European time)
This pattern will repeat itself every two weeks.
Please respond to this post if you want to join, or contact the workgroup leaders (@schuemie, @msuchard) directly.

Tomorrow (Wednesday April 6) will be the first Eastern Hemisphere meeting of the OHDSI Population Level Estimation Workgroup. Please note I seem to have made some errors with time zones in previous communications. These are the correct times:
3pm Hong Kong / Taiwan
4pm South Korea
4:30pm Adelaide
(9am Central European time)
(8am UK time)
Last week, only Jamie Weaver joined the Western Hemisphere meeting. Two weeks before that, there were only 3 participants. Does anybody have an idea why nobody is joining? Is it because the time is inconvenient? Is nobody interested in methods and their development? Or is it me?
Meanwhile, the minutes and slides for today’s Eastern Hemisphere meeting are posted on our wiki.
We’re rebooting the Western Hemisphere meetings! Today (Thursday January 5) at noon Eastern Time we’ll have an informal get together, mostly discussing @yuxitian’s research. Anyone interested is welcome to join.
In two weeks (Thursday January 19) we’ll officially kick off the renewed meetings. See the workgroup Wiki for meeting details. Some of the topics we will discuss in these meetings:
Evaluation of methods (including methods for propensity score estimation)
Just a reminder that tomorrow (January 19) we will have our next Western Hemisphere meeting. The topic will be OHDSI estimation-methods papers in progress, including an overview of the research that I’ve been working on in the past months.
The meeting will take place at these times:
6pm Central European time
5pm UK time
12pm (noon) New York / New Jersey
9am Los Angeles / Stanford
