Non-Individuals in the Provider Table [THEMIS]

QUESTION / PROBLEM
One of the items recently brought up for discussion was the following:

Currently there is a PROVIDER convention 2: “Many sources do not make a distinction between individual and institutional providers. The PROVIDER table contains the individual providers.” But this needs to be clearer defined for institutions (especially since GENDER is required).

RECOMMENDED SOLUTION
Update the Convention 2 PROVIDER

Many sources do not make a distinction between individual medical groups and institutional providers. The PROVIDER table contains the individual providers. In cases where a provider has unknown gender or may be a individual medical group set GENDER_CONCEPT_ID = 0.

Well, we need to distinguish between individual (PROVIDER) and institutional (CARE_SITE) providers. The upcoming Provider and Visit Domains will do that for you: If there is a Place of Service or Specialty or any other code the domain_id in the CONCEPT table will tell you where this thing will have to go. We should add that to the convention.
