With respect to
These providers are anxious that sources will be public on the internet…we need to allay concerns.
One option (that you may have discussed) would be to require that users accessing the content on the web already have a UMLS license. As the license is free and also available outside the USA, you wouldn’t be losing any potential users.
If you choose this route, the UMLS provides an authentication mechanism that could be used by all public OHDSI services (like HERMES) that allow public access to terminologies. To use it you would need to:
- As the UMLS for an OHDSI license as a “UTS Authorized Content Distributor”
- Use this license with a provided UTS REST service to authenticate users
Details at: http://uts.nlm.nih.gov//help/license/validateumlsuserhelp.html
This is the same technique that we use for licensed terminologies like SNOMED CT and ICD-10 and is also used by other entities like the Value Set Authority Center: https://vsac.nlm.nih.gov It’s also rather convenient not to deal with issuing and maintaining license agreements, forgotten passwords, licensing questions, etc.
Hope this helps,
Brandon
Thanks Brandon. That approach seems very promising. I have experience with maintaining a umls license but did not know about this service.
@jon_duke what do you think of this option? R
The minutes for the 4/8/2015 Laertes team meeting are now posted. thanks for productive meeting. -Rich
Had noticed in latest minutes that the WebAPI was coming together, and that as a consequence you may now have had a need for a user interface. Is this currently a priority or opportunity for someone to contribute? If so is there documentation available in terms of requirements / use cases / user stories?
I was thinking if the basic use cases are laid out and the API is documented and accessible I could throw something together in angularjs.
Absolutely that would be fantastic! There currently lacks documented
requirements for the UI but I would be glad to work with you and others on
a spec document.
Jon
Ditto - the basic use cases our described in our Drug Safety paper and I
think that would be a good place to start:
