Lab Results - Preliminary Results or Final Results only?

Seeking input on whether folks are including lab values only once the test result is flagged as some flavor of ‘final’ (versus lab with explicit status of some flavor of ‘preliminary’).

As lab tests go through multiple status’ in LIS’ we’re wondering what inclusion / exclusion criteria folks are applying in ELTs for values.

We are currently not populating the value for preliminary results and wondering whether this is indeed best practice?

Personally, I would only put in the final result. Otherwise, those using the data might under-report certain organisms. In theory, the ‘preliminary’ labs only represent a very small proportion of your lab data. However, this issue is real when a new microorganism enters the population (SARS-CoV-2, Zika, etc.).
