HADES development announcements

DatabaseConnector 8.0.0 has been released. The most important change is that we no longer guarantee to run on Java 8. Most platforms will still run on Java 8, but some JDBC drivers may require newer versions. Specifically, the new DataBricks driver requires Java >= 11.

We recommend everyone to upgrade to Java 21, which is also the version used by other groups in OHDSI, and will be the version we will test HADES against moving forward.

HADES-wide release 2026Q3 has been released. This is a snapshot of the HADES packages and their dependencies, thoroughly tested and confirmed to be mutually compatible. It is intended to be a stable environment for studies and execution engines. Currently, the release is only available as an renv lock file .

Two important changes compared to the previous release:

  1. We now target R 4.6.1. The main reason is that binaries are no longer available for our prior target (R 4.4.1), causing long install times to build everything from source.
  2. We no longer guarantee Java 8 compatibility, as mentioned above for DatabaseConnector 8.0.0. We now target Java 21.

Everyone is recommended to update to R 4.6.1 and Java 21.

Minor change: Deprecated package BigKNN has now been removed from HADES.

DataQualityDashboard v2.9.0 has been released. This release adds support for OMOP CDM v5.5 along with some minor cleanups and bugfixes.

Big thanks to @MaximMoinat for his collaboration and contributions on this release

SelfControlledCohort v2.1.0 has been released. This includes several bug fixes and optimizations towards study diagnostics and allows for future improved integration with Strategus. In addition, this package now depends on CohortGenerator with default behaviour checking cohorts have been instantiated before allowing execution.

Eunomia v2.2.0 has been released. The main change is that Eunomia will default to load the GiBleed data set that is in the OMOP CDM v5.5 format to support the latest release of the CDM.

DataQualityDashboard v2.9.1 has been released. This contains a bugfix related to a broken dependency. Only unit tests were impacted.
