Hi OHDSI community,
We are working on extracting dental procedure data from Epic Clarity/Wisdom into OMOP CDM and are reviewing how to map CDT/HCPCS dental procedure codes to OMOP standard concepts.
One issue we are seeing is that some dental procedure codes appear in Athena as deprecated/non-standard concepts and do not have a visible Maps to standard concept.
For example:
D0120 — Periodic oral evaluation - established patient
Athena concept: Athena
In Athena, this appears as a deprecated HCPCS concept, and I do not see a mapping to a standard OMOP concept.
We have an Excel file with source CDT procedure codes from our Clarity database along with their frequencies. We are trying to determine the best approach for ETL when CDT/HCPCS dental procedure codes do not have a standard mapping.
Questions:
- Is this the recommended approach for deprecated CDT/HCPCS dental procedure codes without a valid
Maps torelationship? - Are there existing OMOP/OHDSI dental mapping resources for CDT → SNOMED/SNODENT/standard procedure concepts?
- Has anyone created a local dental vocabulary mapping table for CDT procedure codes?
- For commonly used dental procedure codes such as exams, restorations, radiographs, extractions, implants, and periodontal procedures, should these generally be kept as source values when no standard mapping exists?
- Is there any ongoing OHDSI Dentistry Workgroup guidance on handling CDT/HCPCS dental procedures in OMOP?
Any guidance, examples, or references would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kanchan
