Excluding vs not adding concepts in Atlas

Hello Everyone,

I was looking at certain demo cohorts in Atlas public version and was able to see that concepts have been added to the concept set but excluded. Please find the below screenshot

Am I right to understand that we can decide not to add the concept to concept set instead of excluding it? Meaning there is no difference between adding and then excluding it to just not adding it in the first place?

You can think of it that way, but you should go through the exercise of adding all concepts under diabetes mellitus except those concepts under secondary diabetes mellitus, and you will quickly realize the benefit of using the exclusion function.
