EHR data to OMOP CDM Work Group

Hello and Happy New Year!

I’m excited to kickoff the 2025 HSIG meeting series on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 10am EST. We will discuss where we want to go in 2025, ensure our vision aligns with the broader OHDSI community, and finalize our OKRs. We look forward to seeing you here to help kickoff our WG activities this year!

The next guest in the HSIG speaker’s series focusing on OMOP for non-OHDSI uses is @Daniel_Smith, Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, on Monday February 24th at 10am EST. The link is posted above.

The August 2025 vocabularies were released today on Athena. They include > 1400 standard race concept_ids and 150 standard ethnicity concepts. On our September 8th call, I will review how we can utilize the expanded conventions and standard concepts in the ETL to include all races and ethnicities for a person in the OMOP CDM.

Friends,

I am canceling the Sept. 8th meeting.

I need more time to prepare for the race & ethnicity presentation/discussion on how we can utilize the expanded conventions and standard concepts in the ETL to include all races and ethnicities for a person in the OMOP CDM. Specifically, I am working with @roger.carlson to come up with some psuedo code (and Clarity code for Epic User Web) for implementing this in your ETL.

We are targeting Sept. 22nd for this topic. I’ll keep this channel informed.

Hello health system friends!

In 2026 we will be meeting the first Monday of the month from 10am to 11am US Eastern Time zone. Our first meeting will be February 2nd at 10am ET on MS Teams here.

Due to the OHDSI MS Teams environment being inaccessible, I have to cancel the February 2nd at 10am HSIG meeting. However, I can’t cancel it from the MS Teams Tennant since I lost access to my OHDSI account.

We still plan on meeting March 2nd at 10am ET on MS Teams. I will keep this thread updated with information and changes to meeting day, time or location.

Hello Health System friends!

CDM v5.5 will introduce some very useful columns for our use cases. Highlights include the addition of value_as_date to the OBSERVATION table, visit_occurrence_id and visit_detail_id to the SPECIMEN table, value_as_source_concept_id to MEASUREMENT and OBSERVATION, unit_source_concept_id to the OBSERVATION table, along with some vocabulary tables. See the full write up here.

On Monday, July 6th at 10am EDT we will discuss best practices for updating the OMOP CDM to version 5.5. We will also welcome special guests @Callum_Harding and @Dymshyts for a quick discussion and ask regarding psychiatric scales in source data.

Happy summer! Or happy winter if you’re in the southern hemisphere

On Monday, August 3rd at 10am EDT @DaveraG / @DaveraGabriel @CRoeder , Jean Duteau, and Fillipo Napoli will join us to share their experiences from the FHIR-to-OMOP Connectathon. Join us here.
