Drug-ADR reference set - an active project?

We have found the reference set of ADR-Drugcontrols by Ryan et al. 2013 (1) very useful in some recent projects, so I had a few simple questions:

  • Are new control pairs (positive or negative) ever added as new evidence emerges in the literature?
  • Are existing control pairs re-evaluated as new evidence emerges?
  • Is this set an “active concern” for OHDSI or the authors? Will it be updated in the Vocab data distributions (HOI if I am not mistaken)?

Thanks a bunch,
Colin

@herrcerd

I will let some of the authors reply (@Patrick_Ryan, @schuemie, @jon_duke, or @Hartzema) - but I could add my 2 cents.

  • New drug/hoi pairs have not been added.
  • There isn’t particular action to update the reference set itself, however people do provide feedback.
  • I do not know if there is an “active concern” list.

With that said, we are doing work along this lines with LAERTES (GitHub, Wiki) project.

Boyce, R.D., et al., Bridging islands of information to establish an integrated knowledge base of drugs and health outcomes of interest. Drug Saf, 2014. 37(8): p. 557-67.

Right now we are researching how to build a classifier that leverages the LAERTES data and tries to identify drugs that cause certain outcomes (positive controls) and drugs that lack evidence for causing certain negative outcomes (negative controls). There will be a poster at the OHDSI Symposium and we are working on a paper now.

Thanks Erica, that pretty much answers my questions, and I had thought that the work on LAERTES might relate to the set. Looking forward to checking out the poster.

best,

This is why we were concerned about continuing to prove out the negative control set:
