Open Call for Connectathon Participation

June 25-26, 2025 Virtual Event

The HL7 Vulcan Accelerator proposes to improve clinical research infrastructure by using HL7 FHIR to send and receive data to trial sponsors and regulatory bodies.

Vulcan invites you to participate in the upcoming virtual FHIR Connectathon to test these two important implementation guides (IGs).

What We’re Testing

  1. FHIR to OMOP Implementation Guide
This IG enables the conversion of core EHR data from FHIR into the OMOP Common Data Model (CDM), streamlining the use of real-world data for collaborative research across centralized or federated networks.

  2. Vulcan Schedule of Activities Implementation Guide
This IG provides a representation of the protocol activities using FHIR resources to communicate what needs to happen and when, encompassing concepts that are expected in clinical research. We’ll be extending this guide to support more complex study designs, including dynamic and repeated activities, enhancing its utility across a broader range of research scenarios.

Who Should Participate

  • EHRs and Data Capture Systems
Input the data and create an endpoint.
  • Intermediary Systems
Retrieve the data, populate forms or systems, or transmit data to OMOP CDM, CTMS or regulatory agency.
  • Clinical Trial Management Systems (CTMS)
Retrieve the data and send it to the FDA’s endpoint.
