Athena Update Alert: concept_ancestor table correction

Hello Community,

We recently released a new version of the Vocabularies in Athena. During post-release assessment, @Dymshyts helped us discover an error that happened during data migration step resulting in a loss of records for a portion of ATC concepts in the concept_ancestor table.

The issue has been corrected in Athena as of September 4, 2025 12:19 PM CET / 6:19 AM EST and we’ll sent out emails to those of you who already downloaded the release. No other tables or functionalities were affected.

We understand how important accurate data is to our work, and we deeply regret any disruption this may have caused. To prevent similar issues in the future, we are implementing additional checks in our data migration process to strengthen future releases.

If you downloaded the bundle, please get the latest version( by regeneration of it).

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Vlad and OHDSI Vocabulary Team.

Thanks @Vlad_Korsik for the announcement and the quick fix.
Wil the new release have a different version id than the initial August release or is it considered just a correction? (i.e. I would expect to find v5.0 04-SEP-25 in the vocabulary tables)

Hi @MaximMoinat

No, the release version id stays the same: v20250827.

Hi

I got the e-mail but did not get the instructions really how to “regenerate and download” the new package.
In Athena, I see button “Dowload”, “Share” and “Archive” for the last bundle, but clicking on “Download” simply downloads zero-byte-size file.

Hi @Sulev_Reisberg, thanks for your question!

To get the latest content, you should create a new vocabulary bundle directly from the Athena homepage.

Just click the ‘Download’ button in the upper-right corner, select the vocabularies you need(e.g. everything form previously assembled bundle), name your new bundle, and the system will assemble it for you (wait for email notification).

Hope that helps!

2614984 this concept_id row in concept is giving me a demiliting error as I try to upload my concept table to my database. Any reason why?

@muniras

This concept has double quotes in the name. Often by default the double quotes are used as text-delimiters, but for the vocab files you only need to use the tab as field seperator and “disable” the quotes.
