What to do with NULL Death dates in OMOP?

There’s more information to store about a death than just its date. For example the death_type.

it would be also nice to store a reference to the source of this information e.g. “national registry” (NDI in US), “nurse”, “estimated” etc… Then you have a date but also a way to measure the trust of the information.

V6 Death is problematic because there isn’t a type_concept_id associated with the Person.death_date in v6. If the death record lacks a cause of death, a Condition Occurrence record, there won’t be any type_concept_id associated with the death. Source provenance is an important aspect of the CDM.

Looks like I’m reaching consensus on bringing back the death_type_concept_id for death records
