Hello everyone, thank you as always for your valuable insights. I am currently converting Japanese EHR data into the OMOP format. In Japanese EHR systems, the structure of clinical laboratory tests separates the order code from the result code. Based on previous discussions, it seems that laboratory test codes are often mapped to the SNOMED Procedure class. However, when the test result is clearly defined, should it be mapped to Observable Entity instead, or should it still be mapped to the Procedure class after all?
Hi Yoshihiro
When you map lab tests with results, ‘Measurement’ domain should be the first choice for you. Aim for LOINC as your first choice, since LOINC Lab tests are the most detailed. If not LOINC, pick SNOMED for more general concepts.
Procedure vs Measurement problem has been present for ages. In OMOP CDM, Procedures don’t have results. Therefore, you have to record them separately (simplified example: Crohn’s disease diagnosed based on Colonoscopy with histology, record procedures and a condition).
Hi Oleg,
Thank you for your response.
I now understand that laboratory test results belong to the Measurement domain.
I will continue mapping our vocabulary to the standard concepts.
I’ll also keep in mind that the Procedures domain does not contain results.
I’m still getting used to the fact that records are stored separately.
