Question about documentation in github

I really like the documentation the OHDSI tools provide in their githhub repositories. For example, this documentation index.knit for the CDM project (https://github.com/OHDSI/CommonDataModel).

What tools do folks tend to use to generate and edit these pages?

Or R Markdown. Same principle: documentation written in markdown that is rendered as html.
