I am entering information into tables such as procedure_occurrence and condition_occurrence for which I often have incomplete dates–e.g., “a CT was performed in June 2015”; “patient was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1994”, etc. These tables require a date (e.g., procedure_date), so I have to give something. Are there best practices for entering incomplete date information?
Usually, people take the middle of the month, or the middle of the year. However, there is a debate going on about precision of date and time and how to do it right. Please join here.
