Community Meeting 21July2015

Good morning everyone!

For those of you who are able to join Tuesday’s community meeting, you’re in for a treat! We’ll be having a discussion on “gold standard” patients. @jon_duke will kick off the conversation by setting up the problem and asking the group these 3 questions:

  1. How should we handle patients who appear in a database for one doctors visit and are never diagnosed with anything, or seen again?
  2. Should we develop criteria for ‘gold standard’ patients?
  3. Should this be something we tackle during ETL, or at the analysis stage?

@Vojtech_Huser will also give us a short presentation on his previous work using an average patient record archetype concept to compare five big data healthcare datasets.

It should be a great discussion, so I hope you all can join in!

Cheers,
Maura

Thanks Maura!

Just to broaden a bit, we will be talking about a variety of notions of
Gold Standard patients. Whether as part of a cohort definition or part of
a dataset as a whole. This topic may be most relevant to those with messy
data from a variety of sources.

But messiness isn’t a big problem with observational data, is it?

See you Tuesday!

Jon
