Calypso - primary event

Hello,

I am constructing some cohorts using CALYPSO. I do not understand the difference between inclusion rules and primary event filters. I am hoping someone can tease out this difference for me. Thank you.

Primary events are those dates which are ‘candidates’ for your cohort start dates (or the index date of your cohort). If you have no inclusion rules (or additional criteria under the index rule), then all your primary events become the cohort start_dates (and based on the primary event type, it will use the event end date or add 1 day to the event as in the case of procedures).

Then, in inclusion rules, the rules basically say: 'for each primary event, count correlated events (based on a a offset from the index date, such as ‘from 30 days prior to 45 days after’) and you can require either at least one event was found in order to keep the primary event, or you can say zero evens must exist relative to the primary event to keep the primary event.

Does that start to make sense?

Thank you so much Chris.
