THEMIS Focus Group #3: Person, Provider, etc

For those of us in this subgroup, please use the following Google Sheet for our homework assignments prior to our upcoming December 6th call.

The December 6th meeting will be held at 1pm EST via Skype --> https://meet.lync.com/quintiles-quintilesims/anthony.reckard/VMSCW4Y5

Looking forward to speaking to everyone then!

Thanks.

Hello team,

Sorry for the short notice but we wanted to see if anyone would be available for a call this week. That may be difficult with the holidays and time off. I will be on PTO but Mui will have some time to host this call.

Please use the link below to vote for your preferred time or feel free to suggest a different time.

Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who was able participate in today’s call. Below is a brief recap of the issues we discussed. Please note that we plan to meet again in 2 weeks. An invitation will be sent out so you can get it on your calendar. In the meantime, those of you who volunteered to research issues are encouraged to bring them to the OHDSI forum below and to also continue documenting your own perspective and research.

OHDSI FORUM for CDM Builders: http://forums.ohdsi.org/c/cdm-builders

Today’s Topics:
Death Table Research: Tom Galia (me)
• Researched issues on the OHDSI CDM Builders forum and internal ETL documents.
• Updated Google Docs spreadsheet with findings.
• Potential to allow multiple death records per person to capture multiple causes of death is being considered.

Provider Table: Multiple Specialties, Clinical Titles, & Missing Specialties Melanie Philofsky
• Requirement to capture providers with multiple specialties. (Only one record is allowed per provider.)
• Not all specialties are represented (particularly pediatric and alternative medicine)
• Requirement to know the title of provider (RN, MD, PA, etc.)

Person and Place of Service Tables: Data contains variable indicating questionable validity Ron Stewart
Ron’s work with the CPRD: Clinical Practice Research Datalink (I had to look this up!) has numerous instances where data that is of questionable quality needs to be preserved rather than excluded. Christian Reich agreed that this is an issue that is getting a lot of attention. Some ideas for accommodating this were discussed. These issues were added to our Themis group for now.
Examples:
• Dates fall outside of observation period. Current practice throw records out.
• Numerous observations of patient and family history fall outside of observation period.

Google Docs Spreadsheet

Please feel free to email me with questions or clarifications. I am also able to help with updating the spreadsheet if necessary.

Thank you,

Tom Galia
