USC - PRE-DOCTORAL AND POST-DOCTORAL TRAINING FELLOWSHIPS IN ENVIRONMENTAL GENOMICS
The Department of Preventive
Medicine anticipates the availability of two new pre-doctoral positions
in our training program in “Environmental Genomics,” supported by the National
Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
The aim of this program is to provide multidisciplinary training in
epidemiology, genetics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, and computational
biology to future researchers aiming to study environmental and genetic risk
factors in disease.
Pre-doctoral fellows may be
enrolled in any of the Ph.D. programs offered by the Department of Preventive
Medicine, but with particular priority for the programs in Epidemiology
(especially the environmental or molecular tracks), Statistical Genetics and
Genetic Epidemiology, or Biostatistics. For this round of applications from
candidates enrolled in doctoral programs in Bioinformatics or related “big
data” disciplines, including programs in other departments, are encouraged to
apply. Applicants must have an interest in environmental and genetic aspects
of disease and/or the development of relevant methodology and will be expected
to pursue a multidisciplinary approach towards their training. Awards may
be held for up to three years, effective September 1, 2015 (depending upon
position in the program at the time of the award), contingent upon annual
review of performance. No additional
duties (e.g., research or teaching assistant) beyond pursuit of the academic
degree will be expected.
Only U.S. citizens or permanent
residents (green card holders) are eligible to be supported by this grant. Applications from underrepresented minorities
are particularly encouraged.
Interested candidates should
submit a letter by close of business August 15, 2015, outlining their
research and training objectives (one page) and names of three references; also
attach a CV. Students in doctoral
programs other than Preventive
Medicine should also include a summary of their prior academic history and USC
transcript. Address applications Dr. Rob
McConnell at rmcconne@usc.edu.
