Hello! While mapping and loading claims data to CONDITION_OCCURRENCE table, we don’t have the condition start date available in the source data. As the condition_start_date is required and is described as “The date when the instance of the Condition is recorded”, is it OK to use the admin date (inpatient) or claim date (outpatient and professionals etc…)? Even though for chronic diseases, we know these dates are not the actual ‘condition start date’. Thank you!
Short answer: Yes, that’s what folks do.
Longer answer: It really is your call, based on assessing how bad the date can be. If you are not sure about when things happen, put them as history of observations. That’s safe.
