Call for healthcare challenges

Hi all,

Please see below for an event that I am organizing. I’d love to have participation from the OHDSI community. Please note that the submission deadline for abstracts is October 23rd.

NIPS 2015 WORKSHOP ON MACHINE LEARNING IN HEALTHCARE
Friday, December 11, 2015
Palais des Congrès in Montreal

This year at the annual Neural Information Processing Systems
conference in Montreal (Canada), one of the premier meetings in the
field of machine learning and artificial intelligence, we are
organizing a single-day workshop on healthcare. The workshop includes
speakers from a broad spectrum of backgrounds, and presentations of
ongoing work tackling problems in clinical medicine with machine learning.

CALL FOR HEALTHCARE CHALLENGES

The workshop includes a new session, “Healthcare Challenges”, to help
clinician scientists and other healthcare researchers engage with
machine learning researchers around novel and important clinical and
public health problems. We invite submissions proposing a short (one
page) summary of a clinical problem that you would like to see solved
(or are trying to solve) along with the motivation, a high-level
overview of state-of-the-art, and a sketch of an approach (e.g.,
available datasets related to the problem, and analysis that might be
fruitful to conduct or that you have already conducted).

Selected abstracts will be invited to be presented during the
workshop. These short clinical challenge “pitches” will be followed
by a discussion among the attendees to discuss a link to machine
learning, establish feasibility and seek practical ideas for turning
the pitch into practice. The goal for this session is to spark
discussion on new problems and foster new collaborations. Thus, the
abstracts do not require presenting detailed preliminary data, rather
it should focus on describing an interesting and important (however
big or small) problem as clearly as possible.

Presenters that are enrolled in a degree granting program may be
eligible for travel assistance to attend the meeting.

Submissions should be no longer than one page in length (see below for
a suggested template), and can be submitted using the submission form
(http://bit.ly/1QwyQsO) or by e-mail to nips15mlhc@gmail.com.
